F.A.Q. Domains

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT DOMAIN

  1. What is a Domain?
  2. A “Domain” is the name that identifies a person, company or organization on the Internet.  Our domain, for example, is Sitewith.us.  A domain consists mainly of two parts, separated by a dot  The first part is the actual name of the site, while the second part is an abbreviation used to indicate a geographical area or the type of activity of the site.  For example, .it stands for Italy,  .de for Germany, etc.

  3. How do I choose the right name and domain for my activity?
  4. The choice of a domain name for a site is not a simple and it is a very important thing to do when you plan to launch your site.
There are various rules which may help you choose a name:

    - the domain identifies you on the world-wide web.
    - once you have chosen and registered your domain, you cannot change it.
    - the name must be easy to remember for any potential visitor.
    - it should in some way refer to your activity or to the contents of the site.

    Remember:
    - only English alphanumerical characters can be used.
    - the name of the domain cannot begin or end with a hyphen, nor can it be the third or fourth character.

  5. Which domains can I register with Sitewith.us?
  6. Sitewith.us enables you to register your domain with the following TLD (Top-Level Domain) extensions.
    - com
    - net
    - org
    - name
    - biz
    - info
    - de

  7. The domain I want to register is not available, what can I do?
  8. In this case you must choose another name for your domain.  We advise you to select a name that does not closely resemble one that already exists.

  9. How much does it cost to register a domain with Sitewith.us?
  10. Sitewith.us has decided to include the domain’s registration in it’s packages;  it is therefore a service we offer our clients when and if they purchase one of our packages.

  12. For .COM, .NET, .ORG extensions the wait is around 1-2 days.

  13. What characters can I use to register a domain?

    - letters with accents cannot be used.
    - special symbols ( + . , ” % / ) ( $ * § ° _ @ ) cannot be used
    - the name should have at least 3 characters.
    - the domain cannot begin or end with a hyphen (-), hyphens can’t be used in the domain between the third and fourth letter.

  15. I have mispelled the domain i wanted to register. Can I change it?
  16. If the registration is completed your request has been forwarded to the authority:  you cannot therefore change the name of your domain.

DOMAIN AND REDIRECT ASSOCIATION

  1. If I already own a registered domain with another maintainer or want to keep the third level domain, do I get a discount while purchasing one of your packages?
  2. Our packages are all-inclusive and it is impossible to single out price of any of the services we offer.
Furthermore, the possibility to transfer a domain you already own is a cost for our company, included in the price of the package.

  3. May I register the domain first (during the trial period) and then purchase the site?
  4. No, to proceed with the registration of a domain (or transfer of a domain you already own) you must purchase of one of our packages.

  5. Does the registration have to be in someone’s name?
  6. Yes, the registration is complete only if it’s done in someone’s name for liability reasons.

  7. Although I have already paid for the package, I still don’t have the related definitive domain.
  8. After purchasing one of our packages, registration of  a second level domain (e.g. www.yourname.com) is not automatic.  To proceed with the registration of a domain, you must access the control panel and click the yellow “Register the definitive domain” button.
For further information visit the Web domain page.

  9. I have clicked  “Register your domain” in the trial site panel, but the domain is still in the name of Sitewith.us (e.g. yourname.sitewith.us).
  10. Even if you have not yet purchased the site, you will find the “Register your domain” button on the control panel.  By clicking the button you will not register the second level domain (you have to purchase the site to do so), but you can check availability of the domain you wish to associate with your site.

  11. When I renew the site can I register an additional  domain?
  12. No. For each site we allow you to register or transfer only a single second level domain   (e.g. www.yourname.com). Even after a renewal, you cannot request a new domain if you have previously registered or transferred another one.

  13. What is DNS Redirect?
  14. It is a programme that allows users, who have requested a link to a certain Internet address, to be automatically redirected to a different address.

Although our contract includes the possibility of registering/transferring a single domain (for each site purchased), please note that you can however register additional domains through another Maintainer and ask for DNS-Redirect.  This way, by typing in the new domain, you will be able to display the site created with Sitewith.us.  For further details read this article: How to Redirect with DNS.

  15. I have already registered/transferred a domain to the site I have created, how do I associate another domain to the site?
  16. You can register additional domains through another maintainer (Register, TopHost, Aruba etc.: some maintainers offer Redirect as an additional service) and ask for DNS-Redirect.  This way by typing in the new domain you will be taken to the site created in Sitewith.us.
For further details read this article: How to Redirect with DNS.

  17. How can I place my site on some of the major seach engines?
  18. If you want to place your site on some of the major search engines you have to access the appropriate section of the various search engines: it’s free.
To find out how to proceed, we advise you to ask directly to them.  When you have reported your domain, the search engines will decide if and how to position your new site in their directories.

  19. If I decide to transfer my domain to another maintainer, how do I do it?
  20. You have to ask for a Release code (AuthInfo). You can  send us a request from your control panel (Do you need help? –> Contact the staff) to our domains department.
The future Maintainer will then proceed to carry out the necessary steps and Sitewith.us  will not be involved in this process.

  21. The registration of the new domain has to be done in my name?
  22. Please note that you must personally enter the data for the domain’s registration. Therefore it is your own responsibility to indicate a valid name: you or another person of your choice will be the domain’s owner.

  23. If I register the temporary domain “myname.sitewith.us”, will the definitive domain have to be similar (www.my name.com-net-org…)?
  24. No. The registration of a second level domain is independent from the temporary url.  For example you can have “name1.sitewith.us” as a temporary domain and register your definitive domain as “www.name2.com”.

  25. I misspelled the name of the domain. Can i change it?
  26. No you cannot change it.  According to our contract we allow the possibility of registering/transferring only one domain.  However, you can register additional domains through another company and ask for DNS-Redirect. This way by typing in the new domain you will be taken to the site created in Sitewith.us.

For further details read this article: How to Redirect with DNS

  27. How long does it take to transfer a domain?
  28. It all depends on the domain extension and the maintainer, so we can’t really answer to this question.  To speed up the process though, you have to pay great attention when you fill out your request.  To ensure that the transfer is successful, the data must be absolutely identical to those used for the registration. You can check your registration data at the following addresses: www.who.is

  29. For which domains can I ask for a transfer with Sitewith.us?
  30. You can ask for the transfer of all domains (.com, .org, .net, .name, .biz, .info) with the exception of .DE and  .UE.
