CMS (Content Management System): Is a software that allows users to manage the contents of an internet site. After entering a username and a password, any user can manage his own web page directly from the CMS control panel.

Thanks to any CMS it is possible to add text and graphic designs to a page.  There are two types of CMS:  a generic one suitable to manage any type of content, and specialized ones only for certain types of contents.
